The visit signals a shift away from India’s long-standing neutrality and non-alignment, raising serious questions about the country’s foreign policy independence, strategic autonomy, and moral stance on major global issues. On 19 January 2026, the three-hour visit of the United Arab Emirates’s (UAE) president, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, to India attracted significant attention due to the potential outcomes it intended to materialise. The visit prospects a deep strategic engagement between the two states across several domains, including defence innovation, industrial development, advanced technology, training, education and counter terrorism.

National Security Strategy (NSS) of United States, released by President Trump, intends to reform the miscalculations of past leaders and improve decades of Washington’s reach. Trump administration, as per the document, promises respect for sovereignty, restraint and renunciation of protracted global involvement. However, upon closer examination, the 33-pager document is full of internal inconsistencies. In contradiction to NSS, which vows to pull back from taking global responsibilities and adopts the policy of non-intervention, the U.S. pressurises other states through economic, military and political coercion.
