Concept Note

The illustrious history of the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) is a testament to the sacrifices and contributions of its valiant warriors in both times of war and peace. The courage, vision, farsightedness, and legendary leadership abilities of these outstanding individuals have been pivotal in shaping the operational preparedness and overall progress of this esteemed institution. The PAF remains deeply indebted to these men of honour.

Context

The innovative thinking and unconventional solutions brought forth by PAF officers have played a pivotal role in establishing R&D institutions, acquiring new weapon systems, enhancing strategic capabilities, and fostering indigenisation. This forward-thinking approach has set the PAF on a trajectory of progress and self-reliance. Beyond military endeavours, PAF veterans have left an enduring mark on nation-building and philanthropy through projects like Rashidabad, SST School, Alamabad, and Younusabad.

Series Objective

While the PAF has consistently acknowledged the meritorious services of its members, numerous historical events and efforts remain undocumented, existing only as memories within the minds of those who were part of them. As time progresses, this invaluable reservoir of wisdom, personal experiences, and lessons from the old guard is fading away. To safeguard this legacy, CASS is embarking on a series of interactive sessions with select veterans and senior retired officers who will share their insights and experiences with others.

Inaugural Seminar

The inaugural Guest Lecture of this series aims to provide insights into the PAF’s endeavours during times of conflict crises, introduction of the road-runway concept, establishment of the Air Weapons Complex, and the acquisition of strategic capabilities. This talk will offer participants a unique opportunity to gain firsthand knowledge of significant events and efforts undertaken by the PAF to enhance operational preparedness and foster self-reliance. The Guest Speaker will discuss the following broad themes:

  • Innovative Mobility and the Road Runway Concept
  • Genesis of the Air Weapons Complex
  • Strategic Deployment of Air Defence Assets in Times of Crises 
  • Pursuit and Achievement of Deterrence
