In Memoriam
Omer Aamir
آسماں تیری لحد پر شبنم افشانی کرے
It is with profound sadness that we at CASS mourn the passing of our colleague and researcher, Omer Aamir. Omer was one of the earliest researchers at CASS, Islamabad, when it was established. His research on the legal aspects of international relations and human rights was recognised and cited in both national and international academic circles. His passion and dedication to exploring the complexities of global legal frameworks were truly inspiring to all who worked with him.
Omer’s insights enriched the discussions at CASS, and his loss is deeply felt by his peers and mentors. Shaheer Ahmad, a fellow researcher, fondly remembered, ‘I was new at CASS when Omer reached out to check on me while I was unwell. His genuine care and kindness really moved me.’
Air Marshal Javaid Ahmed (Retd), President of CASS, shared, ‘Omer Aamir was a gifted researcher and a key member of CASS. Omer was the first researcher assigned to me as Director of ‘Doctrine and Strategy’ at CASS. I was very impressed by his intellectual curiosity, analytical thinking, strong communication skills, and ability to work collaboratively and independently on topics assigned. Over the years Omer grew into a seasoned professional, who constantly strived to achieve excellence, especially in the field of international law and its applicability to Pakistan. One could usually spot Omer every morning with a cup of Coffee browsing through research material in his office. He had an infectious friendliness and a genuine interest in the well-being of those around him. His colleagues will fondly remember him for the lively debates, and his unwavering kindness. In the research-oriented environment at CASS, he stood out for his generosity of spirit, always willing to lend a hand or offer guidance. Omer leaves behind a legacy that will be remembered for its intellectual rigor and the warmth, wit, and compassion he brought to every aspect of life. He will be deeply missed, but his legacy will continue to inspire.’ Air Marshal Farooq Habib (Retd), Senior Director at CASS, echoed this sentiment, adding, ‘We are deeply saddened by the loss of this promising young man, whose talent and commitment were a source of pride for all who knew him. It’s hard to believe he’s no longer with us. آسماں تیری لحد پر شبنم افشانی کرے (May the sky shower dew upon your grave). Ameen.’
‘I am at a loss for words to express the depth of my sorrow over this unimaginable loss’, lamented Air Vice Marshal Wyne (Retd), adding, ‘Omar’s light will forever shine in the hearts of those who knew him. May we all, especially his parents and family, find strength and peace in the precious memories he leaves behind.’
CASS offers our heartfelt condolences to Omer’s family and loved ones during this time of profound loss. May Omer find eternal peace in the hereafter and may the memories of his life on Earth provide solace to all those he touched. Indeed, we belong to Him, and to Him, we shall return.
