Job Description
Qualifications
- BS Hon/MA/MS degree in English, Communications, Journalism, or related field.
- 2-3 years’ experience in editorial roles, preferably in academic publishing and
digital media.
Preferred Attributes
- Strong attention to detail with excellent communication skills in both English and
Urdu. - Versatile writing skills, adaptable to different audiences and formats.
- Proven ability to meet tight deadlines, including after hours when necessary.
- Proficient in publishing tools and SEO with a solid understanding of social media
platforms. - Effective team player with strong time-management and organisational skills.
- Ability to work independently, take direction, and handle constructive criticism.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, capable of prioritising and
multitasking across various assignments and teams.
Requirements & Responsibilities
Editorial Support
- Assist in editing, proofreading, and formatting content across various platforms,
ensuring accuracy, clarity, and consistency in line with the CASS housestyle
guide. - Supporting the Editorial Team in all activities leading to publication, including
coordinating with contributors, scheduling, and managing deadlines.
Content Production & Rights Management
- Producing time-sensitive 1000-word press briefs for all CASS events, ensuring
quick turnaround and accuracy. - Compiling a CASS newsletter, selecting relevant articles, and ensuring cohesive
presentation aligned with the organisation’s goals. - Selecting supportive material, including pictures, artworks, and infographics, to
enhance the visual appeal of publications as required. - Summarising and composing written material as needed, providing clear and
concise versions of complex information. - Obtaining rights to publish and/or use materials from other publications when
required, ensuring compliance with copyright laws.
Research & Data Handling
- Ability to conduct thorough fact-checking, utilising databases like JSTOR, Google
Scholar, and industry-specific archives. - Competence in handling data visualisation tools like Tableau, Power BI, or
Datawrapper for integrating visuals into editorial content.
Publishing Tools and Workflow Management
- Mastery of MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) for document
management, editing, and communication and familiarity with plagiarism
detection software. - Proficient in the latest publishing and design tools, including Adobe Creative
Suite (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop), CorelDRAW, InPage (for multilingual text
composing), and modern content management systems (CMS) like WordPress
or Drupal. - Experience with collaborative tools like Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets,
Slides), Slack, and Trello for project management and team collaboration.
Digital & Multimedia Integration
- Familiarity with web-based platforms and content distribution tools such as
Canva, Figma, or Adobe XD for online publishing and layout design. - Understanding of basic HTML/CSS for content formatting and web integration.
- Experience with audio/video editing tools like Audacity, Adobe Premiere Pro,
Canva or Final Cut Pro for multimedia content (podcasts, videos etc.). - Manage social media outputs related to editorial content, ensuring consistency
with CASS’s overall communication/outreach strategy.
Adaptability & Continuous Learning
- Stay updated with the latest trends in digital publishing, content management,
and multimedia tools. - Willingness to adapt to emerging technologies and integrate new tools to
streamline editorial processes.
