Professional Experience

 Sameer Ali Khan holds a Masters degree in Strategic and Nuclear Studies from the National Defence University (NDU), Pakistan. Prior to joining CASS, he was serving as Assistant Director (Research) at the Arms Control and Disarmament Affairs (ACDA) Branch of Pakistan’s Strategic Plans Division (SPD). His publications include a research paper on the ‘S-400 Deployment in South Asia and the US’ Regional Interests’ (2019), a co-authored paper on ‘Outer Space and Strategic Stability in South Asia’ (2019), a co-authored paper on ‘Debating Potential Doctrinal Changes in India’s Nuclear Ambitions’ (2018), and a book chapter titled ‘Indian Nuclear Reprocessing Program’ in ‘Indian Unsafeguarded Nuclear Program: An Assessment’ (2016). Previously, Mr Khan has been a Visiting Research Fellow at the South Asia Center of Atlantic Council in Washington, D.C.; the James Martin Center for Nonproliferation Studies (CNS), Monterrey; and the Cooperative Monitoring Center (CMC), Albuquerque. He has also done a fellowship at the Research Society for International Law (RSIL), Pakistan. Besides working on issues related to nuclear doctrines, command and control, safety and security, non-proliferation, arms control and disarmament, he has also worked on cyber security and militarisation of outer space. Over the past ten years, he has delivered lectures at the Foreign Service Academy (FSA), NDU and Quaid-i-Azam University (QAU) in Pakistan.

Professional Experience

Asad Ullah Khan is a Senior Research Associate at Centre for Aerospace & Security Studies (CASS), Islamabad. His area of research is national Security and counter terrorism. He represented Pakistan on various national and international forums on the subject matter. He is the author of numerous research articles, book chapters and opinion articles in reputed journals, books and magazines in the domain of countering violent extremism (CVE). Previously, he was associated with the Institute of Strategic Studies Islamabad (ISSI) for six years. Recently, he has published his work in a book titled ‘Handbook of Terrorism Prevention and Preparedness’ Edited by Alex P. Schmid and launched by International Center for Counter Terrorism in Hague, Netherlands. Over the past years he supervised students at Foreign Service Academy (FSA) and delivered lectures on prestigious forums like Colombo Defence Seminar (2019) and Shanghai Cooperation Organization Think Tank Forum, Beijing (2016). He has also done a short fellowship at China Institute of International Studies (CIIS), Beijing. Mr. Khan holds Masters degrees in International Relations and Project Management from National Defence University (NDU), Pakistan.

Zuhaib Anwar

Zuhaib Anwar is working as a researcher at Centre for Aerospace & Security Studies (CASS). He holds MPhil degree in Defence and Strategic Studies from Quaid-e-Azam University, Islamabad. His areas of interest are politics of Middle East and Afghanistan, and civil military relations of Pakistan

Haris Bilal Malik

Researcher

Mr Haris Bilal Malik is a Researcher at the Centre for Aerospace & Security Studies (CASS), Islamabad. He holds an MPhil degree in International Relations from the National Defence University (NDU), Islamabad, Pakistan. His area of research is regional and international security. He has published numerous opinion-based commentaries and policy analyses in reputed national dailies and international magazines/blogs in the domain of South Asian Security, with a special focus on nuclear security. He has also co-authored a research paper titled ‘The Evolved Security Dynamics of South Asia: Challenges to Pakistan’s Nuclear Threshold’ published in Insight Turkey (HEC-recognized X-category journal; IF 0.328) in 2020. Previously, he was associated with Islamabad-based institutions including Strategic Vision Institute (SVI), Muslim Youth University (MYU), and the South Asian Strategic Stability Institute (SASSI).

Maheen Shafeeq

Researcher (Technical & Industry )

Maheen Shafeeq is a graduate of The University of Sheffield, United Kingdom. She holds a master's degree in International Relations and bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences with majors in International Relations from Bahria University Islamabad. Previously she has worked with the Ministry of Reforms and Development, and Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Pakistan.

Shaza Arif

Researcher (National Security Outlook & Academic Coord )

Shaza Arif is a student of Defence and Diplomatic Studies at Fatima Jinnah Women University, Rawalpindi. She has also participated in an international workshop entitled Commonwealth Futures : Re-imaging Peace at Durban University of Technology, South Africa in March 2020. Her areas of interest are Space, Artificial Intelligence and Strategy . She writes opinion articles on issues related to politics, modern warfare and strategy.

Amna Tauhidi

Researcher (Technical & Industry)

Amna Tauhidi is working as a Researcher at Centre for Aerospace & Security Studies. She holds an MPhil degree in Government and Public Policy from National Defence University. Her masters is in International Relations. Her areas of interest include national, economic and governance challenges.

Moiz Khan

Researcher

Moiz Khan is a Researcher at the Centre for Aerospace & Security Studies (CASS), Islamabad. He is a graduate of the Defense & Strategic Studies Department at Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad. His research focuses on the intersection of military strategy, technology, aerospace and cyber warfare, weapons of mass destruction, and arms control. Prior to joining CASS, Mr Khan served as a Fellow with the Strategic Studies Institute Islamabad (SSII), working on issues related to Nuclear Politics & Strategy, and Arms Control and Disarmament (AC&D). He has also worked as an intern at the Arms Control and Disarmament Affairs Directorate in the Strategic Plans Division (SPD), Pakistan.

Khansa Qureshi

Researcher

Ms Khansa Qureshi is working as a Researcher at the Centre for Aerospace & Security Studies (CASS), Islamabad. She holds BS (Hons.) degree in Strategic Studies from the National Defence University (NDU), Islamabad, Pakistan. Her areas of research interest include great power rivalries, geopolitics, political violence, and nuclear and strategic affairs. Before joining CASS, Her previous experience includes working with the Indus News Network as an Associate Editor.

Zahra Niazi

Researcher (Economic Affairs & National Development )

Zahra Niazi is a Researcher at the Centre for Aerospace & Security Studies (CASS), Islamabad, Pakistan. She holds a Masters in Development Studies, with majors in Peace, Conflict and Development, from the National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST), Pakistan. Her research interests include Sustainable Development, Peace and Development, and Development Economics.

Etfa Khurshid Mirza

Researcher (Nuclear & Strategic Affairs)

Etfa Khurshid Mirza works as a Researcher at Centre for Aerospace & Security Studies (CASS). She is a graduate of National Defence University, Islamabad, from the Strategic Studies department. Her area of specialization is nuclear and strategic affairs.
