About Speaker

Lieutenant General (Retd) Naseer Khan Janjua was born on 28 February 1958 at Model Town Lahore. He was commissioned in the Infantry Regiment of Pakistan Army in March 1979. General Janjua has been through some vast and diverse experiences during his long military career spread over nearly four decades. He possesses a unique insight into challenges confronting national and international peace and security as well as social stability. General Janjua served Pakistan Army in various capacities, often in challenging circumstances. In addition to various significant operational Assignments, He served as Military Observer in United Nations at Cambodia. He commanded a regiment in the difficult terrain of Northern areas of Pakistan, a brigade in the glaciated region of Siachin and led the counter-terrorism operation "Operation RAH-E-HAQ'' While commanding an Infantry Division in Swat Region. General Janjua has also been Chief staff of a strike corps, Director Military Operations, Chief of Staff of Southern Command, Vive Chief of the General Staff and President National Defence University. His last position was Commander Southern Command, the largest formation of troops of Pakistan army in Baluchistan where he played a vital role in eradicating terrorism, extremism, militancy, and insurgency in Pakistan's largest Province. Exposure to conflicts in Swat and Baluchistan enabled General Janjua to closely study the root causes, evolution, and consequences of the threat of terrorism and extremism, hence his emphasis on addressing these challenges in a comprehensive manner. This approach advocates not merely timely military actions but also a social structure conducive for participatory governance and inclusive development while abiding by the people-centric approaches. In recognition of his long meritorious services at various esteemed positions, General Janjua was appointed as National Security Advisor in October 2015. As National Security Advisor, General Naseer Janjua played a very proactive role with reference to national security, regaining mutual trust between Pakistan and all the regional countries. General Janjua received his Master's Degree in War Studies from the National Defence University. He is an avid reader and a regular speaker at various national and international conferences and seminars, General Janjua likes painting and golfing.

The analysis of core technological developments and emerging nature of warfare, also requires future force posturing to cater for impending threats, by transforming the existing militaries into modern, efficient and agile professional forces capable of handling technologies of the future. However, force posturing has different connotations for developed and developing countries, as it founded on each groups distinct perspective and national objectives. Future force posturing would also demand a paradigm shift in the conduct of Next Generation Training (NGT). This requirement for training is already underway in tech savvy countries, who have geared up their force structure with the induction of qualified professionals, well conversant with technological advancements.
